Entrants & Winners for Wisconsin Avenue Placemaking
The "Tournavation" event at City Hall included an expert panel and audience, which selected two winners from among 12 finalists.
167 place making visions for West Wisconsin Avenue were whittled down to 12, and presented at ART Milwaukee’s Tournavation event at City Hall on Tuesday night. Milwaukee place makers took their shot at $50,000 in funding set aside from the $350,000 Creational Trails grant to come up with ways to creatively activate West Wisconsin Avenue next June.
Each presenter had 5 minutes to make their case. After two hours of dreaming about the possibilities along the Avenue, a selection of jurors comprised of former Milwaukee Mayor John Norquist CEO & President, Congress for the New Urbanism, Inc.; Regina Flanagan Art • Landscape • Design, City of St Paul; Claudia Mooney Arts Administrator, Chipstone Foundation; Brad Pruitt Director, Producer and Award Winning Writer, Lisa Sutcliffe Curator of Photography, Milwaukee Art Museum; Debra Brehmer Director, Portrait Society Gallery; and Preston Cole Environmental Services Superintendent, Department of Public Works, helped select the two winners, with the help of an audience vote.
The winners: MIAD Senior Ayla Boyle for “Wisconsin Avenue Dream Catchers – Hanging Over Wisconsin Avenue” and designer Paul Bestul for “Moiré Effect Pathway/Gateway on Wisconsin Avenue.”
