Volcano Choir Big Winner in Milwaukee Music Awards
Milwaukee’s Volcano Choir took two of the top honors Thursday night at RadioMilwaukee’s sixth annual Milwaukee Music Awards ceremonies.
Milwaukee’s Volcano Choir, which features Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, took two of the top honors Thursday night at RadioMilwaukee’s sixth annual Milwaukee Music Awards ceremonies. Award winners in 11 categories were announced at the ceremonies.
Volcano Choir won for Album of the Year and Band of the Year, making it the only group with two wins this year. The group’s latest album, “Repave,” was recorded at Vernon’s Eau Claire studio and has been praised by critics around the country.
More than 4,000 Milwaukee music fans voted online in November to select five finalists in each of 10 music categories. RadioMilwaukee staff picked 10 winners from among the finalists and also gave out a “music ambassador” award.
“Milwaukee is fortunate to have some of the best bands anywhere, which made it hard to pick this year’s winners,” said Jordan Lee, the station’s morning drive-time co-host and assistant program director. “Milwaukee’s homegrown music scene continues to grow, and we look forward to more bands like these finding big audiences here and around the country.”
The awards were announced during ceremonies at RadioMilwaukee’s StudioMilwaukee performance space, located within the station’s new broadcast facility in the Walker’s Point neighborhood. Fever Marlene, Greg Koch Band, Kane Place Record Club, Dana Coppa & Speak Easy and Kiings performed at the ceremonies.

Kudos to Volcano Choir’s well-deserved award, and I particularly like this quote from the article, “Milwaukee is fortunate to have some of the best bands anywhere, which made it hard to pick this year’s winners,” said Jordan Lee.
