Last Weekend in Milwaukee…
In this edition of our summer weekend photo gallery series: images from Gallery Night, Riverwest24, Brady Street Festival, Milwaukee Brewfest and German Fest.
Milwaukee is a diverse city with numerous events happening every weekend. The Third Coast Daily photo team visited several of them last weekend and has a photo gallery including Gallery Night, Riverwest24, Brady Street Festival, Milwaukee Brewfest, and German Fest. Just a small sampling of what our fair city has to offer.
All photos taken by Angela Morgan, with contributions from Joe Brusky for Riverwest 24 and Kyle Burke for Milwaukee Brewfest.
Friday | Gallery Night, Riverwest 24
A short rush hour rain shower cooled the air Friday evening, yet people still came out in droves for art. The Historic Third Ward’s summer Gallery Night & Day showcased a full spectrum of artwork at over 50 venues around town. A Plein Air Competition was held throughout the neighborhood the few days leading up to Gallery Night and the art was shown at the Hudson Business Lounge. Artists competed for cash prizes and incentives and most of the creations were available for sale. Many artists are still showing this work around town so its not too late to check them out.
Saturday | Brady Street Festival, Milwaukee Brewfest
Brady Street was pedestrian-only on Saturday for the annual Brady Street Festival. Three stages of local bands, neighborhood food vendors, a cheesemaker competition (and cheese curd eating competition – this is Wisconsin after all!), a drag show, BMX bike expo and bellydancers filled the street with all those Milwaukeeans out celebrating the Brady Street neighborhood.
Being a city of festivals and a city of beer, the Milwaukee Brewfest has become a popular new lakefront summer festival. Over 100 breweries showcased their craft beers offerings from local names we know and love as well as breweries from all around the states. One admission gave you unlimited samplings so you could find your new favorite six pack.
Sunday | German Fest
“Milwaukee’s Original Haus Party” took over the Meir Festival Grounds this past weekend for the 32nd annual German Fest. Long lines formed for the famous potato pancakes but was worth the wait. The festival served over 5 tons of of potatoes, 20,000 brats and 10,000 pounds of sauerkraut throughout the weekend. The sounds of polka filled the air as attendees ate, drank, shopped for authentic German beer steins and traditional clothing and more. A Dachshund derby brought a huge crowd on Sunday as well as the Largest German style only homebrew competition in the country.
