MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Feb. 24, 2021) The Water Council today announced that Xylem will be relocating its Sanitaire operations from Brown Deer, Wis. to the Milwaukee-based Global Water Center, a 98,000 sq. ft., seven-story, former warehouse designed to house water-related technology development facilities for universities, established businesses and entrepreneurs.

Xylem is a leading global water technology provider committed to solving water by combining world-class solutions with the power of data and analytics to strengthen, optimize and drive efficiencies for utilities, industrial, commercial buildings and residential markets. As a Fortune 1000 company, Xylem offers an industry-leading portfolio of powerful solutions that fuse digital and other proven technologies with heritage products to help solve water and smart infrastructure challenges.

“We are extremely pleased that Xylem has made the strategic decision to relocate its Sanitaire personnel into the Global Water Center where it can have firsthand access to entrepreneurs, researchers and students developing new technologies for the freshwater industry,” said Dean Amhaus, president and CEO of The Water Council. “Being physically close to the Xylem team creates unparalleled opportunities for The Water Council to build closer ties and expand our engagement with one of the world’s strongest and diverse water technology companies.”

The Xylem Sanitaire team includes approximately 50 staff involved with engineering, product management, operations, research and development, and sales. They are responsible for the global delivery of biological-based wastewater treatment projects and supporting Xylem’s full treatment portfolio. The Xylem Flygt facility in Pewaukee, Wis. is not relocating.

“Xylem sees considerable value in moving the Sanitaire offices to downtown Milwaukee. Not only partnering with The Water Council and its members, but also in appealing to top candidates in the recruitment process. With the emphasis on innovation and R&D, coupled with the location and unique space, we feel attracting top talent will be an added beneficial outcome,” said Michael Maierle, Director – Global Project Execution, Treatment Division.

Preparations are currently being made for the move, which is targeted for spring 2021. Xylem will occupy space on the second floor, totaling approximately 8,600 sq. ft. and bringing total occupancy of the Center to above 85 percent.

The Global Water Center, located at 247 West Freshwater Way in the heart of historic Walker’s Point, is the physical hub and cornerstone of Milwaukee’s global water cluster. The site acts as a water research, education and business accelerator facility. The turn-of-the-century brick warehouse was converted into a state-of-the-art water business and research facility in 2013. The design of the renovation was driven by sustainability and the building not only achieved LEED Silver certification but was the first commercial building in the world to receive Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) site certification.
