MPD Launches Flock ALPR Transparency Portal
The Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) announces the launch of a new transparency portal providing the public with greater insight into the Department’s use of Flock Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology.
This transparency portal provides the public with real-time insights into MPD’s Flock ALPR network, including public settings for data retention and sharing, the number of queries conducted during the previous 30 days, the total number of ALPR cameras in MPD’s network, the types of alerts officers receive from Flock, the total number of hotlist reads during a 30-day period, the types of offenses queried, and summaries of policies governing the technology’s use. The dashboard is designed to address common questions MPD has received and provide the public with greater visibility into the use of this technology.
This effort underscores the commitments MPD made in partnership with the Mayor to establish appropriate guardrails for the use of this technology while providing greater public understanding of how Flock ALPR technology is used to support public safety.
MPD remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the responsible use of technology. Through this new resource, MPD is continuing its efforts to provide the public with meaningful information about the tools we use to support the safety of the Milwaukee community.
