MADISON, Wis. – If you are covering the incident at the Trump International Golf Club today, please consider the following statement from WisGOP Chairman Brian Schimming:

“We are relieved that President Trump is safe and unharmed after this terrifying incident at the Trump International Golf Course. Many thanks are owed to the United States Secret Service and local law enforcement for their swift and courageous response to the situation. This latest attempt on President Trump’s life is yet another sobering reminder of the need to reject political violence in its many forms. It is the responsibility of Republicans and Democrats alike to stand together against those who would perpetrate acts of violence against our fellow citizens.” —WisGOP Chairman Brian Schimming

    That statement is bold. Literally.

  2. tmaloney6 says:

Trump has promoting violence and hate since he rode down the golden escalator over 10 years ago. His party has been promoting the proliferation of guns including assault weapons for decades. What would you expect this behavior and rhetoric would lead to?

  3. Mingus says:

In June, 20018, a gunman killed five journalists working at the Capitol Gazette in Maryland. Trump had repeatedly called the press the “enemy of the people”. Dr. Fauci and numerous other public health officials received death threats during covid. Dr. Fauci had is own protection detail. Public Employees handling voting in many States face harassment and death threats. Ideas promoting assassination of journalists and public employees started during the Trump administration that justified the unhinged and politically angry to follow through with threats and murder.
