Wisconsin’s Economy Shatters Records Under Gov. Evers

Unemployment Rate At Record Low 2.8%, State Has Projected $3.8 Billion Surplus

By - Jan 25th, 2022 01:13 pm

MADISON, Wis. — Last week, Wisconsin hit an impressive new milestone — the lowest unemployment rate in state history at 2.8%. On top of that, it was announced today that the state will finish the 2021-23 budget with a $3.8 billion surplus, nearly $2.9 billion more than was expected.

Wisconsin also has the lowest number of unemployed people in its history, as well as a labor force participation rate above the national average. In other words, Gov. Tony Evers’ efforts to invest in our economy and our workforce are working.

“These economic milestones prove that Governor Evers is delivering results for Wisconsin with a strategy that works,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler. “Gov. Tony Evers’ common-sense investments in hard working middle class families, businesses, and farmers are driving Wisconsin’s successful economic recovery. While Republicans are spending taxpayer money to seek partisan advantage at the expense of our democracy, Gov. Evers’ only priority is ensuring the people of Wisconsin have the resources they need to thrive.”

Gov. Evers knows that our family farms and small businesses are the backbone of our economy – that’s why he has delivered grants to more than 2,400 small businesses through the Main Street Bounceback grant program. Gov. Evers also directed $50 million to more than 20,000 farmers, which will help ensure the long-term success of our agricultural industries.

Additionally, more than 300,000 homes and businesses will soon have access to new or improved high-speed internet service. That means businesses will be able to reach more customers and do business more efficiently. Gov. Evers is also making sure businesses and middle class families aren’t paying more than their fair share — last year, the governor signed a $450 million small business tax cut and more than $2 billion in individual income tax relief for the middle class.

This just scratches the surface of Gov. Evers’ investments in our state. He’s sending taxpayer dollars straight back to the hard working people of Wisconsin, not to the GOP’s pet projects.
