Wisconsin Author Jeffrey D. Boldt Wins International Impact Book Award
“Big Lake Troubles" Recognized for Fiction Addressing Climate Change
MILWAUKEE (October 1, 2025) – Author Jeffrey D. Boldt has been awarded the International Impact Book Award for Fiction Addressing Climate Change and Global Warming. The Wisconsin-based author receives the accolade for his newest novel “Big Lake Troubles,” which centers around the climate crisis impacting the Great Lakes. Boldt is set to be recognized during the International Impact Book Awards gala on November 1, 2025 in Phoenix, AZ.
The author’s new novel addresses the crisis directly through its dramatic setting at a coal shipping facility on Lake Superior. Boldt draws on his personal experience as a former environmental judge to explore the ethics of tackling the climate crisis in a flawed system in an inspiring journey of personal growth, connection, and truths beyond courtroom walls.
The mission of the Phoenix-based International Impact Book Awards is to celebrate and recognize the exceptional work of authors from around the world. Entries are open to both fiction and non-fiction titles with over 30 award categories, including Children’s, Poetry, Biographies and Short Stories. Past partners and sponsors of the awards include Forbes, NBC, CBS and TedX.
The new award is a capstone to several rare honors for Boldt’s “Big Lake Troubles.” Kirkus Reviews called his second novel, “one of the best legal thrillers of the year,” in its January 15, 2025 issue. Kirkus also gave the title its coveted Star Rating, marking books of “exceptional literary merit,” and made “Big Lake Troubles” a monthly Editor’s Pick. This is the second Kirkus Reviews distinction for Boldt, whose first novel “Blue Lake” was named to Kirkus Reviews Best Books of 2022.
