While GOP Gov Candidate Bill Berrien Doubles Down on Tariff Tax, Sen. Baldwin Listens To Negative Impacts On Local Businesses

MADISON, Wis. — On the same day Senator Tammy Baldwin met with Wisconsin business owners to discuss the negative impact the tariff tax is having on their companies, GOP gubernatorial candidate Bill Berrien doubled down on his unequivocal support of this policy. But Berrien, in what is becoming a theme of his campaign, flip-flopped on his previous stance where he admitted that tariffs can hurt business.

“Bill Berrien is so concerned with begging and pleading for Trump’s approval, he is ignoring working class Wisconsinites who will suffer as a result of this tariff tax” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Philip Shulman. “While Senator Baldwin is listening to the concerns of her constituents, Berrien continues to jump through hoops to justify his previous criticisms of Trump in an attempt to get a sliver of approval from his party.”

Berrien also backtracked his support for a state tariff tax, despite claiming that it would be a benefit to Wisconsin businesses.
