Milwaukee, WI March 20, 2019 – Hack-a-Pipeline – is an all-woman and non-binary individual hackathon being launched with the purpose of creating a community of belonging for technologists in Milwaukee.

Lift Up MKE is hosting the Hack-a-Pipeline event to create a safe environment where self-expression and creativity can flourish through technology. The event will be held at Ward 4 on Saturday May 4th and Sunday May 5th.  Participants will show up and form teams around a problem or idea.  Teams will work together to develop a unique solution over the next day, iterating and “pivoting” as needed.

Mentors are a key part of the event to help the teams make their ideas come alive. Mentors will help with visualization, technology, and ideation all weekend long. Food and drinks will be provided to the teams for both Saturday and Sunday.

During lunch on Saturday, Allyson Bubb, from Work Authentically, will speak to the participants on, “Strategies to Elevate Your Personal Brand and Land the Job of Your Dreams.”  Everyone will wrap up Saturday evening by 10:00 pm to return Sunday at 8:00 am reenergized to wrap up their ideas and demos.

On Sunday doors will open to the community starting at 12:30 pm to experience the demos. Childcare will be provided during demos so that families can join in on the excitement. Starting at 1:00 the teams will present their ideas live to a panel of judges. The demos are an opportunity to showcase the participants ideas, skills, and collaboration.

The top three winning teams, determined by the judges, will win prize money, (1st place $2500, 2nd place $2500, 3rd place $500). A community award that is voted on by the audience will receive money donated for demo day tickets. Judges for the event will include Nadiyah Johnson of Jet Constellations, Maggie Fernandes a Software Developer at MacGregor Partners, and J. Dietenberger an Instructor and STEM, Business, Innovation, & Design Internship Coordinator, Division of Student Affairs at UWM; other judges to be added closer to the event date.
