What They’re Saying: Local Electeds Praise Biden, Democrats in Congress for Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal

MADISON, Wis. — Today, local elected officials from across Wisconsin are praising President Biden and Democrats in Congress for passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, touting how the deal will benefit their communities on a local level.

President Biden’s deal builds on the historic investments Governor Evers has made during his first term. Governor Evers’ first budget included nearly a half-billion dollars in transportation funding, and even during the pandemic hundreds of road improvement projects moved forward, some under budget and ahead of schedule. Repairs have been made in virtually every corner of the state and Wisconsin’s roads are ranked 8th in the nation.

Read what leaders from across the state are saying about the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal:

State Senator Jeff Smith (WI-31)

  • “Communities across western Wisconsin are already building back better thanks to President Biden and Democrats delivering the American Rescue Plan. The ARP gave us the funds to continue investing in broadband — this infrastructure deal will get us nearer to closing the digital divide and connecting our rural communities with reliable, high-speed internet.”

State Representative Kristina Shelton (WI-90)

  • “Green Bay is building back better thanks to President Biden delivering this investment in infrastructure. From rebuilding our roads and infrastructure to funding our public schools to investing in working families, President Biden’s Build Back Better plan is making a significant difference in our community and in the homes of working people.”

State Representative Jodi Emerson (WI-91)

  • “This type of federal investment is unprecedented. By addressing Eau Claire’s local infrastructure needs, we can better our community and secure a better future for our kids.”

Marathon County Supervisor William Harris (District 3)

  • “Reaching a deal on President Biden’s Infrastructure Bill means that we get the resources we need, we can invest in our community’s future, and Wausau will Build Back Better!”

Eau Claire City Councilman Andrew Werthmann (District 5)

  • “When President Biden took office, he promised to Build Back Better. This deal is President Biden delivering on his promise. Families across Eau Claire are thankful for his leadership.”

Dane County Supervisor Yogesh Chawla (District 6)

  • “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal will change many lives across Madison. This is the type of federal investment and partnership that defines true leadership.”

Dane County Supervisor Anthony Gray (District 14)

  • “Every community in Madison will benefit from this deal — whether it’s from expanding access to broadband or from clean water infrastructure. Thank you to President Biden and Democrats for this investment in our cities.”
