MILWAUKEE — Wellpoint Care Network, a community-facing human services organization, will host our 4th annual Back to School Bash on Thursday, August 7 from 3 to 6 p.m. on our northwest Milwaukee campus, 8901 W. Capitol Drive. This event is free and open to the community.

“Our Back to School Bash provides families access to essential school supplies, books and resources that reduce barriers to learning,” said Reggie Newson, Wellpoint Care Network President and CEO. “It helps families feel prepared and confident for the school year — reducing anxiety about the first day of school by offering a place to access resources in a fun and welcoming environment.”

Our goal is to provide 1,500 children with backpacks full of school supplies. Access to food, fun and additional resources from local partners will also be available.

“We will offer free haircuts, books, healthy snacks, fun and information that will cultivate positive connections, which can influence year-long engagement in student success,” added Newson.

Wellpoint Care Network’s new Community Connections team will be on-site to help connect families to resources related to the Five Pillars of Stability: Health, Education, Housing, Employment and Caring Connections.

We are excited to announce that Milwaukee 5th District Alderman Lamont Westmoreland will be available throughout the event to meet with neighbors. Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson is also scheduled to appear.

“Partnering with Wellpoint Care for this Back to School Bash is about more than just handing out school supplies and book bags — it’s about reminding our kids and families that their community stands with them,” said Westmoreland. “When children start the school year equipped and supported, it sets the tone for confidence, learning and long-term success. I look forward to this year’s event and the opportunity to connect with so many area families as we work together to build a stronger, more united community.”

No pre-registration is required. Backpacks are limited and will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be present in order to receive a backpack.

Please note that if there is bad weather, the event will be held Friday, August 8 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
