WBB Falls to Villanova in Quarterfinals of BIG EAST Tournament
Forbes and Vice combine for 40 points
The fourth-seeded Marquette University women’s basketball team fell to fifth-seed Villanova, 73-66, in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament at Mohegan Sun on Saturday.
The largest lead for either team in the first half was three points and the game had 10 lead changes and nine ties.
Villanova had the largest lead of the game at 10 points, 65-55, with 2:11 remaining before Marquette went on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit. Free throws down the stretch sealed the game for the Wildcats.
Villanova (18-13, 11-7 BIG EAST) was led by Jasmine Bascoe, who had 22 points and 10 rebounds.
NOTABLES:
- Marquette tied its season-low with 12 turnovers.
- Skylar Forbes recorded one block and has 53 on the season, tied with Christine Kennedy (1994-95) for the most blocks in a single season in program history.
- Skylar Forbes had her seventh game of the season with 20-plus points.
- Kennedi Perkins had her third-straight game with nine points off the bench.
