WBB Falls at James Madison in WBIT Second Round
Skylar Forbes and Halle Vice combine for 47 points
HARRISONBURG, Virginia – The Marquette University women’s basketball team continued play in the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament with an 80-76 overtime loss at James Madison on Sunday.
The Dukes stormed out to an 11-0 lead before the Golden Eagles closed the first on a 12-7 run.
Marquette went on a 12-6 run to begin the second quarter and a Skylar Forbes’ three at the 6:23 mark tied the game up at 24. One possession later, a Halle Vice layin gave MU their first lead of the day. MU would outscore the Dukes 20-12 in the second quarter to take a 32-30 halftime lead.
The Golden Eagles took a two-point lead into the fourth and went into overtime tied up at 66. It was one-point game with 44 seconds to go in overtime before JMU closed the game on a 6-3 run.
James Madison (30-5, 18-0 SBC) were led by Kseniaa Kozlova, who had 20 points and 11 rebounds.
NOTABLES:
- The game saw six lead changes and 12 ties.
- Skylar Forbes recorded her 54th block of the season, setting a new single season record for blocks in a season. Forbes broke Christine Kennedy‘s record of 53 set during the 1994-95 season.
- Forbes went 7-of-7 from the free throw line Sunday and finished the season shooting 90.9 percent (120-of-132), the second-highest free throw percentage in a single season in program history behind Arlesia Morse, who shot 92.5 percent (135-of-146) during the 2014-15 season. Forbes and Morse are the only two Golden Eagles in program history to shoot over 90-percent from the free throw line in a season.
