Walgreens closures continue – MLK and Hadley store to close in early December
Statement of Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs November 13, 2024
Last month, Walgreens announced that it expected to close roughly 1,200 stores nationwide by 2027, and 500 by the end of next year. Initially, it was not known what the local impact would be here in Milwaukee, but with the forthcoming closure of the Walgreens at 2826 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., that will make three city stores to close before the end of the year.
For customers who use the 2826 N. MLK Dr. location, the nearest other Walgreens locations are at 2950 N. Oakland Ave., 320 E. Capitol Dr., and 1400 E. Brady St.
Walgreens noted in a statement, “We know that our stores are important to the communities that we serve, and therefore do everything possible to improve the store performance. When closures are necessary, like these two in Milwaukee, we will work in partnership with community stakeholders to minimize customer disruptions.”
I hope those at Walgreens are true to their word when they indicate they will work with the community to minimize disruptions, and not close their doors abruptly like they have at other locations. Our residents deserve as much.
