Van Orden Points Fingers at Everyone but Himself for Klein Hall Shutdown

MADISON, Wis. — Today, Derrick Van Orden started his morning off on a Twitter rampage by spreading false claims about the closure of Klein Hall, a housing facility for homeless veterans, in his district. While Van Orden skirts accountability and blames Governor Evers, the truth of the matter is that Governor Evers included Klein hall funding in his budget and repeatedly urged the Republican-controlled Legislature to maintain funding for Klein Hall. However, legislative Republicans pulled the funding from the governor’s budget and even voted against the measure twice during the amendment process.

Even still, Van Orden showed no fight in supporting homeless veterans in the third congressional district. He had the opportunity to pursue funding for Klein Hall through Community Project Funding at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, but failed to take any action.

“Van Orden spends more time playing the blame game on Twitter than he does actually fighting for the veterans he claims to care so much about in the third congressional district,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Rachel La Due. “If he spent more time in Wisconsin and not hiding in DC behind a keyboard, he would know that he and his Republican buddies in the state legislature are the ones who failed our veterans.”
