UWM Engineering research conference to focus on emerging technology

MILWAUKEE_Engineers and other scientists from academia, industry and government are invited to network and learn about emerging technology that is of local, national and global significance at the fifth annual Milwaukee Engineering Research Conference (MERC), hosted by UWM’s College of Engineering & Applied Science on four Fridays in February — Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26 — from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

These virtual sessions will address: energy systems of the future; Wisconsin’s agenda and industry expectations for advanced manufacturing; biomedical engineering innovation in the Milwaukee area; and water infrastructure/drinking-water issues facing Milwaukee and cities nationwide.

MERC 2021 is sponsored by Dedicated Computing, GE Healthcare, We Energies Foundation, Sage Water and UWM’s School of Continuing Education.

Cost: $25 per session; $75 for the series.

UW System President Tommy Thompson, former U.S. Health and Human Services secretary and four-term governor of Wisconsin, will give a plenary address at each session.

Other keynote speakers represent UWM’s Connected Systems Institute; Lakefront Brewery; the National Science Foundation; Ford Motor Company; and the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Biomedical Engineering.
