Tom Tiffany Announces Plan in Wausau to Eliminate State Income Taxes on Tips and Overtime

WAUSAU, WI – Today, Congressman Tom Tiffany, candidate for Governor of Wisconsin, joined Wausau business leaders to announce his plan to eliminate state income taxes on tips and overtime.

Congressman Tiffany was joined by Kent Olson, owner of Sourdough & Co., who spoke in support of eliminating taxes on tips, noting it helps attract workers to his sandwich shop and “boosts morale and improves retention.” He was also joined by Cory Sillars of Dan Sillars General Contractor, Inc., whose construction crews regularly benefit from overtime.

“Madison has taken far too much from working people for far too long,” said Congressman Tiffany. “Whether you’re a food server, bartender, nurse, firefighter, machine operator, or construction worker, you should keep more of your paycheck, and as governor, I will make sure of that.”

As Americans file their taxes this season, many are seeing the impact of historic tax relief, including a permanent child tax credit and efforts to eliminate taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security at the federal level. A service worker in Beloit saw his refund double, and a bartender in Appleton reported a significant increase in his return.

“Unfortunately, the Democrat frontrunner for governor, Francesca Hong, thinks you should be taxed more,” Tiffany added. “She joined many Democrats in voting against eliminating taxes on overtime in the state Legislature.”

Assembly Bill 461 (no tax on overtime) and Senate Bill 36 (no tax on tips) are currently headed to Governor Evers’ desk. If vetoed, Congressman Tiffany will sign both as governor to ensure Wisconsinites keep more of their hard-earned money. Notably, Francesca Hong voted against eliminating taxes on overtime and did not show up for the vote on eliminating taxes on tips.
