MILWAUKEE – Supervisor Priscilla E. Coggs-Jones and King Advisory Inc. (KAI) welcome all children and parents to participate in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Back to School Festival this Saturday from noon-3 pm at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 1531 W. Vliet St., Milwaukee, Wis.

“I am excited to participate in and sponsor this year’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Back to School Festival,” said Supervisor Coggs-Jones. “A good education is essential to our children’s’ futures, and we must ensure that every child in our community has access to the resources they need to be successful at school.”

To mitigate the spread of COVID-19, both walk-up and drive-up options are available for parents and guardians to receive free book bags and school supplies at the festival. Those utilizing drive-up service will pull up to the front of the community center and receive supplies without having to leave their vehicle. Walk-up service will take place on Vliet Street. Masks are required for walk-up service.

In July, KAI elected new leadership including President Dawonn Averhart, Vice President Nori Carter, Secretary Felicia Williams, and Treasurer Vanessa Johnson. All officers are long time volunteers with years of dedicated service to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and Park.

KAI team members include Elder Quincy Johnson, Charles Reese, Chole’ Coggs-Jones, Ladette Austin, Kendall Parsons, Devona Coggs-Jones, and Founder Elizabeth M. Coggs. Each has been instrumental to the continued progress of the King Center and Park.

The KAI ad-hoc team includes Dee McCollum, Greg McBeath, and Dominique Connnor.

Sponsors for the event include Forest County Potawatomi Community Foundation, King Advisory Inc., Jammin’ 98.3 WJMR Milwaukee Radio Group, Milwaukee County Office on African American Affairs, Northcott Neighborhood House Inc., Milwaukee County Parks, United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha, Next Door Foundation, WE Energies Foundation, and County Supervisor Priscilla E. Coggs-Jones.
