Statement on the Senate passing AJR 5 Celebrating Black History Month
MADISON, WI – Today, the Wisconsin State Senate passed Assembly Joint Resolution 5 recognizing and celebrating Black History Month, the first time this resolution has been passed by the State Legislature in several years. Senator Dora Drake, the Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus, has provided the following statement:
Black History does not just end when we finish the month of February. It is a continuation of acknowledgment of African Americans’ trials, achievements, and contributions to this country, the reflection of how good trouble and advocacy can bring change, and learning from our former and current leaders on how to press forward as an individual and as people.
I am proud that this resolution was passed with bipartisan support. Moving forward, my hope is that passing this resolution is a first step to implementing legislation that solves problems affecting Black Wisconsinites.”
