Statement On The Passing of Senator Herb Kohl

By - Dec 28th, 2023 11:10 am

Wisconsin lost a legend yesterday with the passing of Senator Herb Kohl. I join his family, friends, and those throughout the community who are mourning the loss of a man who meant so much to so many.

Since I was young, the Milwaukee Bucks have been a huge part of my life and embedded into my being. This was how I got my first exposure to Herb Kohl. In the late 1960s, Kohl was a part of the City being awarded a NBA franchise. In 1985, he purchased the team to make sure they stayed in Milwaukee, and again 2014 as he sold the team he worked to ensure they remained in Milwaukee, and even contributed $100 million to the development of the Fiserv Forum as part of that deal. That said, without Senator Kohl, many of our favorite Milwaukee Bucks memories would have never happened.

Senator Kohl’s commitment to the Bucks, and to Milwaukee, always resonated with me, but he was so much more than just a sports guy.

He was a successful businessman who cared deeply about his employees and the communities they served. He was a politician who campaigned on the promise that if elected, he would work his heart out for the people. He was also a strong advocate for education, and a generous philanthropist who believed in supporting those in need.

Perhaps more than anything else, Senator Kohl was an outstanding human being, who always wanted to uplift his community and those around him. That will be his lasting legacy, and what I’m sure Wisconsinites will miss most about him. Though we’ve lost a legend, his legacy will live forever.
