Ms. Jezamil Arroyo-Vega is well-known for her record of service, strong resume, and ability in grassroots organization. She is also the first Latina to be appointed Commissioner of Neighborhood Services. The unanimous support of her historic nomination in the Common Council vote today demonstrates how highly she is regarded.
Our City’s government works best when both ends of City Hall cooperate to find common ground and good outcomes. We are proud of the Common Council’s role in pushing the administration to look for the best possible candidate.The Mayor has said this is an interim appointment pending a broad search. We trust he will continue to consult with Common Council members to ensure a suitable permanent commissioner is selected. In the meantime, it is good to know the department is in capable hands.
