Senator Hesselbein Denounces Republicans’ Continued Attacks on Abortion Access
MADISON, Wis – Today, the Senate Committee on Licensing, Constitution, and Federalism recommended Senate Bill 300 (SB 300) for passage on a party-line vote. SB 300 would further restrict abortion access for Wisconsinites by enacting certain prohibitions on healthcare providers and other state employees. Senate Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) released the following statement:
“There is absolutely no room for any politician to insert themselves in the private medical discussions between a patient and their trusted physician, and they certainly should not pretend to know more about providing medical care than the doctors who underwent years of schooling and professional training.
“Beyond limiting abortion access for Wisconsinites, SB 300 would also jeopardize the national accreditation of UW Health’s OB/GYN residency training program. Legislation that further exacerbates our state’s workforce needs is simply reckless. My Democratic colleagues and I will continue to speak out against these attacks and work to restore, defend, and improve abortion care in Wisconsin.”
