Senator Habush Sinykin Introduces Legislation to Support and Honor Wisconsins Veterans
MADISON, WI – Senator Jodi Habush Sinykin (D-Whitefish Bay) and Legislative Democrats introduced The Veterans Promise, to support and honor Wisconsin’s veterans. The bill package, which includes 3 pieces of legislation that would fund the Missing In Action Recovery and Identification Project, provides resources for veterans’ mental health programs, and designates November 11, Veterans Day, as a state holiday. Today, Senator Habush Sinykin also introduced a bill that would expand eligibility under the Veterans and Surviving Spouses Property Tax credit to veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 70 percent.
Senator Habush Sinykin shared the following comment:
“Expanding the Veterans and Surviving Spouses Property Tax Credit by reducing the eligibility threshold to 70% service-connected disability rating will help ensure that more veterans and their families are able to remain in their homes and in our communities. I am proud to reintroduce this initiative that was removed by Republican members of the Joint Finance Committee and therefore not included in the final version of the state’s budget.
“Our veterans have showed up when our country needed them—time and time again—it’s far past time that Wisconsin shows up for them.”
