Senator Dianne Hesselbein Introduces No Taxpayer Dollars for Insurrectionists Act

MADISON – Today, Senator Dianne Hesselbein introduced the No Taxpayer Dollars for Insurrectionists Act. Senate Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein released the following statement:

“With no Congressional approval or oversight, President Trump recently announced a $1.8 billion slush fund to give taxpayer dollars to January 6 rioters. This is the height of corruption, and a dangerous misuse of public funds. Wisconsin taxpayers should not be forced to reward political violence and attacks on our democracy.

“That’s why I am proud to introduce the No Taxpayer Dollars for Insurrectionists Act. This bill would create a 100% Wisconsin state income tax on any payouts received from this slush fund. Put simply – if you’re from Wisconsin and you stormed the Capitol, you will not receive money from the slush fund.

“Wisconsinites are tired of the chaos and corruption caused by the Trump administration. From reckless tariffs to the conflict with Iran, the President continues to harm hard-working Wisconsin families and businesses by driving up costs. At a time when Wisconsinites continue to struggle with the rising cost of groceries, gas, and housing, our taxpayers must not foot the bill.”

A copy of the bill is available here and a copy of the cosponsorship memorandum is available here.
