MILWAUKEE, WI — Riverwest Radio is proud to serve as a Community Partner for Milwaukee Film’s presentation of STEAL THIS STORY, PLEASE!, a gripping new documentary portrait of iconic independent journalist Amy Goodman of Democracy Now!

The film screens May 8–14, 2026 at the Oriental Theatre. On Sunday, May 10 at 12:00pm, Amy Goodman will appear in person with Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin for a Q&A following the film. The conversation will be moderated by Xav Leplae of Riverwest Radio.

Directed by Deal and Lessin, STEAL THIS STORY, PLEASE! follows Goodman’s three decades of reporting from the frontlines of global conflict, political struggle, and media consolidation. The film presents Goodman as a journalist undeterred by armed soldiers, riot police, smooth-talking politicians, and corporate media — pursuing stories and voices too often excluded from mainstream coverage.

At a time of shrinking newsrooms, weaponized social media, political attacks on truth, and widening distrust in public information, the film asks a blunt and urgent question: what happens to democracy when the press surrenders to power?

“For Riverwest Radio, this film lands very close to home,” said Xav Leplae, station manager of Riverwest Radio. “Independent media is not a luxury. It is civic infrastructure. It is how communities connect. Amy Goodman’s work reminds us that journalism can still refuse power, refuse silence, and refuse the flattening machinery of corporate media.”
