Republicans Embrace Government Overreach, Risk Shared Revenue for our Communities
MADISON, WI. — Representative Snodgrass (D-Appleton) calls out Assembly Republicans for fueling culture wars and failing to address real, pressing issues of Wisconsinites with the passage of AB 24 in today’s Assembly floor session and released the following statement:
“Affordable housing, affordable child care, the cost of health insurance, and the cost of groceries… None of these issues were addressed today. Instead, the Republicans chose to pass a bill that would jeopardize funding for municipalities by forcing them to do the bidding of President Trump and his unconstitutional actions regarding immigrants. State government forcing local governments to do the bidding of the federal government is the very definition of overreach. The passage of this bill diverts already scarce resources away from more pressing priorities, encourages disorder and fear in legally residing immigrant communities, and ultimately reduces public safety. We know that when people fear that local law enforcement may detain, deport or arrest them because of their citizenship status, they become less willing to come forward to report a crime or serve as witnesses, making everyone less safe.”
