Rep. Andraca Introduces Lowering Costs, Improving Lives Legislation
Legislative Democrats Continue to Address Rising Costs for Wisconsinites
MADISON, Wis. – Today, Rep. Deb Andraca (D – Whitefish Bay) joined fellow Legislative Democrats to introduce the Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package. This legislation includes the first of many proposals Rep. Andraca and her colleagues will put forward this session to help Wisconsinites struggling with rising costs.
Rep. Andraca released the following statement regarding the legislation:
“It is clear that my constituents want legislators to focus on the issues that matter to them and improve their health and livelihoods. Access to healthy meals, vital healthcare, and a safe and dignified place to call home should not be partisan issues, so I hope we are able to find common ground with Republican colleagues as we kick off this legislative session.”
The Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package includes the following pieces of legislation:
- Reducing the tax burden for renters and homeowners with the Homestead Tax Credit by raising the income eligibility and indexing the credit for inflation
- Lowering prescription drug costs by capping the cost of insulin, eliminating cost-sharing payments for low-income households, and improving the efficiency with which we import prescription drugs into our state, among other recommendations from Governor Evers’ Task Force on Reducing Prescription Drug Prices
- Helping families save money on groceries and reducing schools’ administrative burden by providing students the chance to eat a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no cost to their families, regardless of economic background
