The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin has unanimously approved the purchase of the Dawn Harvest Solar and Battery Energy Storage Facility in Rock County. The project will add 150 megawatts (MW) of solar energy and 50 MW of battery storage to the power grid — enough to power more than 45,000 homes.

We Energies will be the majority owner of the project, with Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) and Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) as co-owners. Ownership breakdown:

  • We Energies – 120 MW solar and 50 MW battery
  • WPS – 15 MW solar
  • MGE – 15 MW solar

“Today’s decision is another key step in executing our ‘all the above’ energy strategy that supports continued reliability with investments in a balanced mix of energy sources, new technology and stronger equipment to harden the grid,” said Mike Hooper, president — We Energies. “The Dawn Harvest project will serve customers year-round and is expected to reduce fuel costs and take advantage of available federal tax credits, helping keep energy costs down for our customers.”

The facility is expected to begin serving customers in 2028, following construction and testing.

The project is being developed by Invenergy, North America’s largest privately held developer, owner and operator of innovative, reliable power infrastructure
