Public Market Announces Plans for Public Ice Rink
“Areas smallest public ice rink”, The Dinky Rink, will open on January 21
The Milwaukee Public Market announced today its plans to open The Dinky Rink, “the area’s smallest public ice skating rink”, located outdoors on the north side of the public market building inside its Parking Lot Patio tented seating area. The Dinky Rink will open for operation on Friday, January 21 (weather permitting), with time slots being available by reservation only.
“This time of year shouldn’t be thought of as a reason to hibernate and avoid the cold,” said Paul Schwartz, executive director of the Milwaukee Public Market and Business Improvement District #2. “Developing fun and unique amenities during the winter months only adds to the experience at the market and the greater Historic Third Ward neighborhood, and The Dinky Rink is a perfect example of that.”
A ceremonial “first skate” will be done by beloved Milwaukee Admirals mascot, Roscoe, on Friday, January 21 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a stroll inside the market building to take photos with fans.
The 770 square foot rink was developed in response to an increased interest in outdoor activity during the winter months. The rink area will feature covered seating, outdoor heaters, and access to food and drink options from market vendors.
The Dinky Rink will be open during general market operating hours to people ages 3 years old and older. Reservations will be taken online for 90 minutes sessions. Attendees will be required to bring their own skates to the rink, which will operate as long as Mother Nature allows.
