MILWAUKEE (July 15, 2024) – This summer, Downtown Milwaukee visitors are encouraged to take art for a spin. Now through mid-August, a multisensory public art installation is bringing pedal-powered projections to the Milwaukee RiverWalk at Chase Tower. Light Lane, presented in partnership with Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21, the Milwaukee Riverwalk District and Chase Tower, features four stationary bikes that emit light and sound when pedaled.

Customized for Milwaukee, Light Lane highlights stanzas from an original poem by Dasha Kelly Hamilton, Poet Laureate Emerita for the State of Wisconsin, called “Light Cycles.” Hamilton’s words are intended to create dialogue around human and social wellness. The installation pairs her written word with music for an immersive and interactive experience.

“We are thrilled to bring this new activation to Milwaukee’s RiverWalk,” said Erica Green, Director of Public Space Initiatives for Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21. “While this interactive art-display invites visitors to engage with art physically, it also encourages users to contemplate both light and life cycles through the thought-provoking words by Dasha Kelly Hamilton. It’s sure to delight guests of all ages.”

Designed by LeMonde Studio, Light Lane debuted in Milwaukee on July 1 and will remain in place through mid-August. It is free and accessible to the public 24/7; however, it is best enjoyed when the sun is down. The installation has been showcased in cities around the world, including Singapore, New York City and Tempe.
