New Hands-on Event “KIDS MUSICFEST” Nov. 10 Invites Families to Discover, Experiment, Play
CIVIC MUSIC MILWAUKEE is inviting children and families to “discover the joy of music,” at its first-ever event KIDS MUSICFEST Sunday, November 10 from 11 am to 4 pm at Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, 325 W. Walnut St. The free-admission event will feature music performances, interactive sessions, and the opportunity to connect with greater Milwaukee’s best music-oriented organizations for children.
Two stages and six areas with interactive sessions will feature performances at the “Star Stage,” which highlights the area’s best youth ensembles. The “Find Your Voice Stage” will let kids turn nerves into energy with singing workshops and more.
Ongoing hands-on learning sessions throughout the day include the “Drumming Den,” where kids participate in percussionist-led drum circles; “Music Reading Round-Up” where young participants can make music in a flash; and “Tech Lab,” where kids can make their own music using today’s technology.
Children ages three and up can build their own instruments and create art in the “Creation Station.” Kids get to try playing their favorite instruments with the pros who play them in the “Instrument Petting Zoo.” Milwaukee Public Library storytellers will read music-themed children’s books in the “BookNook.”
For parents and others who want to learn about music-oriented experiences for children, the event’s Resource Fair lets them connect with those organizations for information about opportunities, programs, camps and lessons. Among the 20 organizations participating are Ko-Thi Dance Company, Milwaukee Jazz Institute, Milwaukee Public Schools Music Department, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Skylight Music Theatre, Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Xalaat Africa Drum and Dance for Life, and more.
