MILWAUKEE, March 17, 2023—The Photo Dept Lab, a film lab based in Milwaukee WI, announced today the soft opening of their photographic film lab. The Photo Dept Lab serves Downtown Milwaukee and surrounding areas. The lab is focused on providing quick turnaround, high quality film processing and scanning, and emphasizes support for accessible and affordable E-6 and ECN-2 processing alongside the more common C-41 color and black & white films. The lab will support mail-in and walk-up services.

Christopher Sturm, founder and owner of The Photo Dept Lab, attended school to study photography in his home state of California, and in 2017 created the YouTube channel, The Photo Dept, to provide education and insight into approachable photographic concepts to beginner and intermediate photographers.

“I hope that the lab will grow into a community hub, where brand-new and seasoned photographers alike can come together to share knowledge, learn, and support each other,” said Sturm. “We have plans in the near future to implement a program for getting film cameras into the hands of younger creatives who may not otherwise have the means.”
