May 5, 7:00 pm on Milwaukee PBS 10.1

By - Apr 19th, 2022 12:16 pm

MILWAUKEE; April 19, 2022, – Education in America has been under the microscope in the last few years in large part due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but other variables have also played a part. What is the state of education today and what actions are needed to support it?

Milwaukee PBS brings you a one-hour special, Speaking Of…Teachers in Crisis, that looks at education in Wisconsin. This thought-provoking program examines the nationwide teacher shortage and the stressors impacting teachers, causing them to quit or retire early.

“Bringing critical issues in our community to the forefront is a priority for Milwaukee PBS,” said Vice President and General Manager Bohdan Zachary. “We think this in-depth look at education in Wisconsin provides a springboard for important discussions about the significance education should have.”

The program premieres on Milwaukee PBS 10.1 on May 5 at 7:00 pm. The pandemic had a huge impact on teachers, but the crisis had been building even before COVID-19. The special features an interview with U.S. Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, and discussions with teachers about their decisions to work in a classroom. The special also addresses the problem of finding enough teachers of color.

And in recognition of May’s Teacher Appreciation Week, the special thanks teachers for their service and dedication. Viewers can learn more about the issues and what action they can take in this special program. Encore broadcasts of the program will be available on air and on demand at milwaukeepbs.org.
