New committee assignments reflect diversity of experience, expertise to move Council forward
Statement of Common Council President José G. Pérez April 11, 2025
The Spring General Election held last week included the election of the newest member of the Common Council, Alex Brower of the 3rd District. I look forward to working with Alderman Brower, and know he will do well in representing the interests of those who live and work on Milwaukee’s east side.
With the Common Council back to a full 15 members, I spent time discussing with my colleagues the best ways to utilize everyone’s talents and expertise. With that, effective on Wednesday, April 9, Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs began serving as chair of the Public Works Committee, and Alderman Robert J. Bauman began his tenure as chair of the Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee. (The full, updated list of Council committee assignments is attached to this statement).
Alderwoman Coggs brings decades of experience and service on the Council, and she and Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic (Finance and Personnel Committee) and Alderperson JoCasta Zamarripa (Licenses Committee) are making history as we now have the highest number of female Council committee chairs ever!
Alderman Bauman has been a long-standing member of the Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee, and his passion for urban development, public housing, and historic preservation will serve the city well in this role.
I want to extend a sincere thank you to my colleagues who stepped up to help keep everything running smoothly after the passing of our friend Jonathan Brostoff.
As we move forward, I believe the Council is well positioned to tackle the issues and priorities facing our city. Together, we will continue to move Milwaukee forward.
