New body would take on Milwaukee’s illegal dumping epidemic
Common Council legislation to create a new committee to battle the city’s illegal dumping epidemic will be heard by the Public Works Committee on April 30.
The public will be able to provide input on the new body through online e-comments when the Public Works Committee agenda for the April 30 meeting goes live in about 10 days. If recommended for approval, the legislation would likely go to the full Council on May 13.
The Council members noted the new committee will be responsible for researching, developing and monitoring plans to coordinate citywide anti-illegal dumping efforts specifically designed to reduce illegal dumping.
“We have a worsening illegal dumping problem in Milwaukee that is affecting virtually every part of the city,” the Council members said.
“It is our hope that the new committee can bring some fresh ideas to stemming the tide of illegal dumping, which has especially brought significant blight to areas of the north and northwest sides where residents are being negatively impacted on a weekly basis,” the members (Alderwoman Coggs, Alderwoman Pratt, Alderwoman Taylor and Alderman Chambers) said.
