#MUBB Pulls Away For 78-50 Win At Providence
Marquette 3-0 in league play for first time since 2012-13
The No. 8/8 Marquette University men’s basketball team (12-2, 3-0 BIG EAST) continued BIG EAST Conference play with a 78-50 win at Providence (7-7, 1-2 BIG EAST) on New Year’s Eve in Amica Mutual Pavilion.
The 28-point final margin is tied for the fourth-largest in BIG EAST play for Marquette.
Marquette led by as many as 32 in the second half, holding PC to 34.0 percent shooting from the floor and forcing 22 turnovers (turned into 27 points).
The Golden Eagles used an impressive first-half performance at both ends of the court to take a 47-20 advantage to the locker room at the intermission. MU shot 52.9 percent from the floor and held the Friars to just 27.3 percent while forcing 14 turnovers.
Notables:
- Marquette now leads the all-time series 25-15 and snapped a five-game losing streak at Providence (hadn’t won at PC since 2018-19)
- The Golden Eagles are 3-0 in league play for the third time since joining the BIG EAST in 2005-06 and first time since 2012-13
- Marquette allowed 20 first-half points, its fewest since Butler scored 20 on Feb. 4, 2024
- Guard Zaide Lowery finished with a career-best three 3-pointers and scored a career-high 11 points
- Entering play on Tuesday, Marquette was one of just 23 teams in the country to feature the same starting lineup every game
