The No. 11/11 Marquette University men’s basketball team (18-6, 9-4 BIG EAST) concluded a two-game BIG EAST road swing Saturday afternoon with a 77-67 loss at Creighton (18-6, 11-2 BIG EAST) at the CHI Health Center Omaha.
Marquette trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half before eventually taking the lead with just over 10 minutes left. The game remained tight the rest of the way and was a one-point game with 3:58 left until Creighton knocked down back-to-back treys to move ahead by two possessions. A driving layup by Jones closed the gap to 70-67 with just under two minutes remaining, but Creighton’s effort from behind the 3-point line down the stretch allowed it to pull away for the victory.
The Golden Eagles trailed 43-36 at the intermission after shooting just 36.1 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. Guard Chase Ross was limited to just 10 minutes because of foul trouble and picked up his third in the closing minutes. Creighton, meanwhile, knocked down 55.6 percent of its shots in the first half.
