MPS Mourns the Passing of Former Board President Mark Sain
District recognizes former board president's contribution to student development
(MILWAUKEE) — Milwaukee Board of School Directors President Missy Zombor released the following statement today on behalf of the Board, administration and the entire Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) community:
“The MPS community is mourning the loss of former Board President Mark Sain. He was tirelessly dedicated to our community—first as a longtime firefighter, later as a school board member, and finally as a community advocate for literacy.
“First elected to the Milwaukee Board of School Directors in 2011, President Sain served two terms and was chosen by his colleagues to lead the Board as president from 2016 to 2019.
“During his time on the Board, he championed safety, sponsoring resolutions to keep weapons away from schools. He was committed to recognizing the work of our students with special needs who participated in career training programs and the employees who supported them. He advocated for investments in schools to make sure they were ready to meet students’ learning needs. And he was our longtime delegate to the Milwaukee Public Library Board of Trustees, an institution he continued to support as a citizen member.
“We extend our sympathies to Mark’s wife, Charlotte, his family, and everyone whose lives were made better by his presence.”
Sain was a 1977 graduate of Washington High School.
