MILWAUKEE, WI (October 6, 2022) – WISN 12, in partnership with the American Red Cross, held the ‘WISN 12 Hurricane Relief Drive’ to help people who have been devastated by Hurricane Ian. Generous viewers throughout Southeastern Wisconsin donated over $75,000 to deliver urgent assistance for those affected by the natural disaster.

Hurricane Ian was one of the most powerful storms in recent history. Ian hit the west coast of Florida as a Category 4 storm and devastated homes, businesses, and communities. The storm was responsible for a death toll in the dozens and continues to rise. Millions lost power as fierce winds and over 20 inches of rain pummeled the state.

“The loss of life is heartbreaking,” says Jan Wade, president and general manager of WISN 12. “We knew we had to do something to help after seeing the scenes of destruction left by this powerful storm.”

On October 4, 2022, WISN 12 and the American Red Cross conducted a phone bank hosted by WISN 12 and accepted online donations. On top of the viewer donations, West Bend Mutual Insurance contributed $10,000 in matching funds for the fundraising effort. The money brought in through the ‘WISN 12 Hurricane Relief Drive’ will supply people with essentials such as food, shelter, blankets, tarps, personal care items, and more.

“The outpouring of support from our viewers is both appreciated and inspirational,” adds Wade. “When people in Southeastern Wisconsin see others in need, they always do what they can to help. We want to offer a huge ‘thank you’ to all those who stepped up. It will mean so much to those in need.”

Hurricane relief donations to the American Red Cross can still be made at www.wisn.com/redcross or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
