MILWAUKEE (July 20, 2022) – Feeling the need for speed? Summer in the City is heating up with a one-night-only outdoor screening of the 1986 classic “Top Gun,” presented by Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, at Museum Center Park (near the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Mason Street) on Friday, Aug. 19. The high-flying experience takes off at 7:00 p.m. with pre-show entertainment, including DJ Shawna, yard games, and concession stands.

Attendees are encouraged to pack a picnic or pick up a snack from one of the vendors on-site, including Da Udder Spot (ice cream), Cottonmouth MKE (cotton candy), Kona Ice (shaved ice), and Pop’s Kettle Corn (popcorn). Then, it’s time to ride into the danger zone with the outdoor showing of “Top Gun” at sundown (approximately 8:00 p.m.) on a 40′ x 20′ screen with downtown’s skyline as the backdrop. The event is free and open to the public.

“This is a unique opportunity on National Aviation Day to support the local community that has supported our hometown airport. Choosing to fly from the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport helps us get more flights, creates jobs, fuels our economy, and helps Milwaukee succeed,” Airport Director Brian Dranzik said. “We invite everyone to stop by Museum Center Park, enjoy some free popcorn from the Airport, and experience the thrill of the original ‘Top Gun.’”

National Aviation Day is the celebration of the development of aviation.

“We’re thrilled to partner with MKE Airport to present ‘Top Gun’ as you’ve never seen before,” said Beth Weirick, CEO of Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21. “We’re excited to add this outdoor movie night to a string of free community events as part of our Summer in the City series and conclusion of our highly-anticipated Downtown Employee Appreciation Week.”

To welcome visitors and employees back to the heart of the city, Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 has launched “Summer in the City.” The campaign highlights a series of free events coordinated by Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21, as well as by partner organizations. The screening also coincides with the organization’s 17th annual Downtown Employee Appreciation Week, August 15 – 19.
