Milwaukee County Supervisor Jack Eckblad Condemns the Unlawful Detention of the Hon. Judge Hannah Dugan
MILWAUKEE, WI –
According to media reports and the U.S. Marshall’s office in Washington, D.C. the Honorable Judge Hannah Dugan was detained by U.S. Marshalls this morning. She was taken into custody at the Milwaukee County Courthouse.
Immediately, though, it directly undermines the civil rights of every person in the United States as guaranteed by the 14th amendments, which states that “no state shall deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
“We must all stand united against the authoritarian impulses and actions of the Trump Administration,” Eckblad stated, “To be clear: by depriving one person of their right to due process, the federal government is asserting it has the authority to deprive anyone and everyone of those same rights. Judge Dugan’s example is a testament to our ability to insist on our rights, and history will see her as a champion of our democracy. Judge Dugan should be released immediately.”
