Milwaukee Bucks and Pick ‘n Save Team Up To Donate $50,000 Worth Of Food

Four community groups to receive donated gift cards for food

MILWAUKEE (Jan. 17, 2023) – The Milwaukee Bucks and Pick ‘n Save have teamed up to donate $50,000 worth of food to local Milwaukee organizations in support of Kroger’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the Bucks and Pick ‘n Save have partnered for this initiative.

The four organizations to receive donations include Capuchin Community Services, BLACC Health Fair, Teens Grow Greens and local domestic violence and homeless centers.

In lieu of in-kind non-perishable food products, the Bucks and Pick ‘n Save are distributing the $50,000 in the form of Pick ‘n Save gift cards to help alleviate immediate food insecurity and access needs in the community. Throughout the season, the Bucks and Pick ‘n Save will donate to four different organizations to help alleviate hunger and access to food in our community.

 The Bucks and Pick ‘n Save will host a press conference and meal distribution at St. Ben’s Community Meal (930 W. State St., Milwaukee) on Wednesday, Jan. 18 from 5 to 6 p.m. Bucks guard AJ Green, Bucks Senior Vice President Alex Lasry, Pick ‘n Save Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs James Hyland and Fr. Mike Bertram, OFM Cap., Ministry Director for Capuchin Community Services will be available for interviews. Media planning to attend should RSVP to Kate.Reed@Bucks.com.

 “The Bucks are deeply committed to positively impacting the community and through our partnership with Pick ‘n Save, we can further support those who are experiencing food insecurity,” said Alex Lasry. “We hope these gift cards provide the recipients with relief, support and access to food.”

“Pick ‘n Save strongly advocates for investing in our community’s future to help to improve the quality of life for those in need,” James Hyland said. “We are grateful to partner with the Bucks, an organization that shares our commitment and dedication to the Milwaukee community.”

The Bucks will tip off the giving on Wednesday by awarding gift cards to Bucks community partner Capuchin Community Services. The gift cards will help provide access to food, including fresh items, for people experiencing homelessness, poverty and difficult circumstances. Green will be in attendance to volunteer with the meal serving program along with Bucks and Pick ‘n Save staff.

The other community groups in the Milwaukee area, listed below, will receive Pick ‘n Save gift cards throughout the season as part of the Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative.

BLACC Health Fair: Black Leaders & Advocates Creating Change (BLACC) holds a Health Fair to educate minorities about 360 health (financial, physical, and mental) by connecting people with health professionals to provide insight on financial and mental health tips. Gift cards will support families in need of groceries.

Domestic Violence and Homeless Centers: Three shelters located across Wisconsin that aim to support all those impacted by domestic abuse and homelessness, Sojourner Family Peace Center, The Women’s Center and Hope House, will receive donations. These organizations provide safety, resources, shelter and ensure brighter futures for many families in the community. Gift cards will support those impacted by domestic violence and homelessness receiving services from the programs. Gift cards will support those impacted by domestic violence receiving services from the programs.

Teens Grow Greens: Teens Grow Greens aims to develop teens through transformative experiences that promote belonging, life skills and connections to opportunities that grow leadership. Gift cards will support the youth involved in this program.

In addition to the gift cards, the Bucks and Pick ‘n Save will support these organizations through additional programming including nutrition education, additional food donations and job opportunities.
