Milwaukee Ballet’s “Peter Pan” To Air Nationwide on PBS April 18
Broadcast Marks First Time in Two Decades that PBS Features a Milwaukee Arts Group
MILWAUKEE – In the past decade, Milwaukee Ballet has emerged as a national leader in producing emotionally compelling, innovative and universally accessible new works. On Friday, April 18, 2014, audiences across the country have the unique opportunity to see a beloved tale brought to life when Artistic Director Michael Pink’s original production of “Peter Pan” premieres to a national primetime audience on PBS at 8 p.m. CST.
The familiar story of eternal youth and innocence was recorded and produced by Milwaukee Public Television (MPTV) in 2010. The remarkable stage show — replete with breathtaking visual effects, Pan and Hook’s aerial combat and a pirate ship that sails across the stage — performed to sold-out houses and earned widespread critical acclaim.
“I wanted to create the kind of theatrical adventure that you would want to see time and time again – and now you can,” said Pink. “We’re thrilled that audiences across the country will have the chance to experience its magic.”
The production features Milwaukee Ballet Leading Artist Marc Petrocci as the iconic Peter Pan and rising star Valerie Harmon as Wendy Darling. It boasts the world-class creative team, comprised of Pink; renowned composer Philip Feeney; costume designer Judanna Lynn; stage designer Richard H. Graham; and Emmy Award-winning lighting designer David Grill, whose credits include the 2013 and 2014 Super Bowl Halftime shows.
MPTV’s Emmy Award-winning producer/director Phillip Byrd worked closed with Pink to make sure the beauty of storytelling through movement that transcends the stage is equally stunning on screen.
At MPTV, we have a proud history of working with area arts groups to bring their most intriguing and entertaining works to tens of thousands of television viewers,” said MPTV General Manager Ellis Bromberg. “ It’s gratifying to know that people across the country will get to see what a jewel we have in Milwaukee Ballet and its outstanding talent.”
