Milwaukee Art Museum Expands Public Hours and Offers New Experiences and Programming for Visitors

Milwaukee, Wis. – March 4, 2022 – The Milwaukee Art Museum today announced new ways for visitors to engage through expanded offerings, including a reinstallation of some of its contemporary art galleries, the return of Kohl’s Art Studio and Art in Bloom, and a reopening of the Museum to visitors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. starting April 12.

Beginning this weekend, visitors can experience the Museum’s most significant retelling of the contemporary art story in seven years. A reinstallation of three of the Museum’s contemporary galleries features works from the collection by modern masters including Karel Appel, Hans Hofmann, and Joan Mitchell. This presentation depicts Abstract Expressionism’s evolution into Pop Art and Photorealism, demonstrating the breadth of the Museum’s contemporary art collection and celebrating its role as an educational resource for the community.

The museum will relaunch its signature public programming beginning on March 11 with the reopening of Kohl’s Art Studio, which welcomes families for artmaking activities Fridays – Sundays from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Take-home art projects will be inspired by the woven pictures in the exhibition Currents 38: Christy Matson, currently on view in the Bradley Family Gallery. Docent-led school tours and adult group tours are also restarting this month, providing critical education and engagement opportunities for visitors of all ages.

A highlight of the Museum’s spring programming is the annual celebration of art and flowers, Art in Bloom, which features nearly 30 installations created by floral designers, displayed throughout the galleries alongside the artworks that inspired them. Art in Bloom returns this year for the first time since 2019 with timed visits from April 7–10, and tickets for this popular spring event are now on sale for everyone.
