Café Corazón owners George and Wendy Mireles announced the chain’s Bay View location at 2394 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. will close on Oct. 2.

It was initially unclear why the couple decided to sell their seemingly thriving Bay View location. But in an email to Urban Milwaukee, George wrote, “After Wendy’s cancer diagnosis, we made the tough decision to downsize and put the building that houses our Café Corazón in Bay View up for sale.”

The couple is inviting fans, friends and regulars to attend a Café Corazón Bay View farewell party on Oct. 3 from 4 to 9 p.m.

There will be a DJ, drink specials, a full bar and a $15 limited taco bar. A dollar from every taco plate sold will go to the Bay View Neighborhood Association.

“We couldn’t close this 10-year Bay View chapter without one final toast,” said Wendy. “Help us officially say goodbye and thank our Bay View staff and this amazing neighborhood.”

At the farewell party, Wendy and George will auction off art and memorabilia from the Bay View location. Now through Oct. 3, fans can stop by the Bay View Café Corazón to place silent auction bids, no food or drink purchase is necessary.

Through Oct. 2, Café Corazón Bay View will be open Tue.-Sat. from 4 to 8 p.m. Full bar seating, takeout and dining room seating will remain available.

The restaurant’s Brown Deer and Riverwest locations continue to operate.

The property remains available for sale or lease through CBRE.
