Lime Launches Parking Blitz in Milwaukee as Ridership Booms
Milwaukee, WI (August 26, 2024) — Lime rolled out a new plan to encourage safe riding and promote proper parking in MIlwaukee as ridership boomed. Managing ridership growth responsibly is a major focus for Lime in every city it serves and the company is bringing all of its lessons learned from around the world to inform its campaign in Milwaukee. Ridership is up tremendously 80% year over year. Milwaukee residents and visitors have taken more than 426,000 trips since May 15, averaging over 4,000 rides a day. Compared to the same time period in 2023, ridership has increased this year by 86%.
Safe Riding and Proper Parking
In Milwaukee, Lime’s parking strategy is built around three key pillars: tightly operated designated virtual parking zones in high density areas, rider education, and strategic Foot Patrol and Presentation Specialist work correcting misparked vehicles daily. During peak ridership season this year Lime doubled down on its focus on safe riding and proper parking and is redoubling its efforts even more through the end of riding season this year.
To address parking concerns, Lime:
- Mandatory parking zones in key locations like The Historic Third Ward, Brady Street, North Avenue, and South Shore Park…
- Has hired a full time Presentation Specialist whose sole task is to patrol the city and fix any improperly parked vehicles
- Assigned a team member to review end trip parking photos and sending warnings to riders if the parking job needs improvement. These warnings can lead to fines if repeated and riders can potentially even be banned for repeated offenses.
- Is sponsoring educational posters on Bublr Bike stations around the city
- Has teams on Foot Patrol to observe parking throughout the city and rebalance, redeploy, and repark andy vehicles in need of such work
- Is communicating with its riders via in-app and email messages as well as on social media
- WIll be hosting in-person events and activations on safe riding and proper parking as well
Safety is a key foundation of Lime’s service in all of its cities around the world and in Milwaukee, Lime has happily invested in its hardware, its technology, and its operations plans and resources in order to make it as easy as possible for riders to know and follow the rules of the road. Globally, 99.99% of Lime rides end without incident and Milwaukee is in line with that figure. Lime is also proud that its safety figures continue to improve over time, as the company was able to reduce injuries per million trips by 22% from 2022 to 2023. In 2024 the global incident rate per million trips dropped by another 13% from 2023, marking a 35% decrease from 2022.
Since launching in Milwaukee in July 2019, over 325,000 residents and visitors have taken nearly 1.4 million rides on Lime vehicles. Those riders have traveled over 2 million miles and have shifted over 340,000 trips away from cars, saving over 20,000 gallons of gas and 178 tons of carbon emissions in the process.
