Brookfield, Wis. –  Nurse and U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir released the following statement Monday upon news that Sen. Bernie Sanders‘ government-run health care — supported by Wisconsin’s ultra-liberal senator Tammy Baldwinwould cost $32.6 trillion:

“It’s outrageous. Sen. Baldwin has zero regard for Wisconsin taxpayers. We cannot afford $32.6 trillion of single-payer, government-run healthcare. Shifting the burden onto taxpayers does not make healthcare more affordable. The Bernie-Baldwin agenda will bankrupt us and undo the economic progress we’re seeing with President Trump.

“As a nurse, I know there’s a better way to do healthcare. By equipping patients with information and getting government out of the way, we can lower the overall cost of healthcare and increase quality.

“Putting government in charge will do the exact opposite for cost and quality — just look at the Tomah VA. Our patients deserve better than relying on government officials like Sen. Baldwin who disgracefully sat on a report about opioid overprescription and a veteran died because of it.”

Leah Vukmir is a nurse, military mom and conservative with a proven record who has stood with Gov. Walker in cutting taxes and implementing bold reforms. Endorsed by the Republican Party of Wisconsin, Leah is running for the U.S. Senate to bring the Wisconsin Way to Washington.

  1. comrade vukmir would prefer to see the american people pay more for healthcare with inferior results. there is plenty of wealth generated in this country to pay for healthcare if we start requiring the wealthy to pay their proper share.

  2. Mary Kay Wagner says:

The problem with Ms. Vukmir’s emotional tirade is that there is little fact to support her outrage. Under the current system, hobbled together by Republicans, health care costs account for 17.9% of GDP, the highest in the developed world. What is more, we have higher infant mortality rates, higher rates of obesity, diabetes and an overall lower life expectancy. We pay more and get less. How much more? $10,000 per person/year in the US compared to an average of $3,000 for other wealthy nations.
It will cost money to switch from our inefficient, ineffective health care system, which currently rations care based on access to high-quality health insurance, to a more effective, efficient system. The question is what is the return on the money spent? Ms. Vukmir supported the $4.5 billion “investment” in Foxconn, where we won’t begin to see a return for 25 years or more. Spending $32 trillion with a return in 10 years or less, is a far better and more equitable use of our tax dollars.
