MILWAUKEE, Wis. (March 31, 2014) – Jazz in the Park is returning for its 23rd season, bringing with it a fresh music lineup for free evening entertainment in the heart of downtown. The outdoor concert series takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday evening from June 5 through Sept. 4 in Cathedral Square Park. This year, Jazz in the Park is shaking things up with new national acts alongside a mix of local performers and returning favorites.

Established in 1991, Jazz in the Park has become a summertime hot spot for Milwaukee music lovers with over 8,000 attendees each week. The series boasts live tunes in a variety of styles, including jazz, big band, funk, R&B, reggae and blues. With a convenient setting in the heart of downtown and happy hour drink specials for early birds, Jazz in the Park remains a popular way to start the weekend off early.

Jazz in the Park will welcome four new national groups this year, including New Orleans-native Dumpstaphunk, a quintet of lively vintage funk musicians with a modern edge, gracing the stage June 12. Breaking into the R&B scene in 2010 with his first hit single “Some Place,” Los Angeles-native Nick Waterhouse will lay down smooth rhythms on July 24. On Aug. 7, Billy Martin’s Wicked Knee will entertain attendees with their self-proclaimed “ragtime funk” arrangements. Forq, a group boasting two Grammy winning members, will play on Aug. 28 as the final national act of the season. Several popular Jazz in the Park performers will return this year, including AhVantSoul feat. Jon Pierre Gee & Kat Webb, King Solomon, Paul Spencer Band and Reverend Raven & the Chain Smokin’ Altar Boys.
