Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums to Pay Tribute to Fallen Law Enforcement Officers at 11:55 pm Monday, May 13th at Police Departments and Memorials Throughout Wisconsin
(MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, APRIL 29, 2024) – Individual pipers from the Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums and supporting bagpipers will perform “Amazing Grace” at 11:55 pm on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Police Departments and Memorial Parks throughout Wisconsin. They are recognizing fallen law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the fifth consecutive year. The Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums was formed to honor fire service and law enforcement personnel who have given their lives for the people they serve and regularly perform at memorials throughout Wisconsin.
For many years the band participated in Police Week in Washington DC which included a candlelight ceremony. At midnight following the candlelight ceremony a solo bagpiper plays “Amazing Grace” at the Law Enforcement Memorial. In 2020, because of the pandemic and cancellation of Police Week, the Band chose to carry on the Midnight Piper tradition through midnight performances of “Amazing Grace” locally. That tradition will again take place this year at Wisconsin Police Departments and Memorials. In 1962 President John F. Kennedy designated the week of May 15 as Police Memorial Week.
